Ardbeg – Buy Online Alcohol

For over 200 years, Ardbeg has been made on the small, remote Scottish Isle of Islay. It has a unique peaty, smoky and surprisingly sweet flavor.
  • Ardbeg is the peatiest, smokiest yet most balanced of all the islay malts, balancing smokiness with sweetness to provide a wider complexity of taste
  • Multi-award-winning, Ardbeg’s flagship whisky reflects the best of Islay; an extremely peaty, complex and smoky single-malt scotch whisky
  • Matured in first-fill and second-fill ex-bourbon American oak casks, Ten Years Old is non-chill filtered, which retains maximum flavour and gives the whisky added depth and body
  • Characterised by a diverse array of flavours ranging from lemon and lime to toffee, this single malt allows the natural sweetness of the malt to shine through – a wonderfully balanced whisky
  • Serve at room temperature; enjoy neat, with a little water or 2-3 large rocks of ice

Product Description

Ardbeg is revered across the whisky world as The Ultimate Islay Single Malt. Ardbeg is the peatiest, smokiest yet most balanced of all the Islay malts. Ardbeg is not a one dimensional peaty malt. Rather, Ardbeg balances smokiness with sweetness to provide a wider complexity of taste.

Ardbeg’s portfolio of whiskies is the most awarded of all the smoky malts – Ardbeg has won 51 gold, double gold or best in class medals since 2008. These awards include World Whisky of the Year 2008 and 2009, Scotch Whisky of the Year in 2010 and World’s Best Single Malt in 2013.

Not only that, Ardbeg is lauded by the whisky cognoscenti and adored by whisky fans around the world, including the 100,000 members of the world-famous Ardbeg Committee.

Ardbeg Ten Years old reveals an explosion of crackling peat sets off millions of flavour explosions on the tongue: peat effervesces with tangy lemon and lime juice, black pepper pops with sizzling cinnamon-spiced toffee. This is followed by a wave of brine infused with smooth buttermilk, ripe bananas and currants. Smoke gradually wells up on the palate bringing a mouthful of warm creamy cappuccino and toasted marshmallows. As the taste lengthens and deepens, dry espresso, liquorice root and tarry smoke develop coating the palate with chewy peat oils.

How to drink Ardbeg?

Savour it neat, on ice, with a mixer or in a cocktail.

History

Situated along the southern coast of the island of Islay, Ardbeg Distillery was founded in 1815 by the MacDougall Family. By the end of the 19th century, nearly one-third of the population of the island was employed at the distillery, which became notorious for producing some of the boldest and most robust Scotch whisky in the industry. Today, the distillery remains a testament to Scottish innovation and heritage.

Ardbeg Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made from malted barley, which is peated to approximately 50 phenol parts per million. Once the peated barley arrives at the distillery, it is milled and mashed with water sourced from Loch Uigeadail before being fermented in washbacks made of Oregon pine. While wooden washbacks are more expensive and difficult to maintain as compared to stainless steel washbacks, they absorb a portion of the heat generated during the fermentation process and thus, create a lighter and richer whisky. In addition, the wooden washbacks contribute carbolic compounds to the whisky.

Following fermentation, which lasts for 55 hours, the wash is distilled twice, first through a copper-pot wash still and then again through a copper-pot spirit still. The spirit still is equipped with a purifier, which acts as small condenser and causes a portion of the evaporating vapors to be pumped back into the pot and then re-distilled. This purification process, which is rare in the industry, results in whisky that has a signature fresh and malty flavor.

Ardbeg Wee Beastie is the newest permanent addition to their core lineup of whisky and a sign of things to come for the expanding distillery. It proudly shows its age statement, having spent 5 years in ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks, before being bottled at 94.8 proof. That’s a hefty alcohol volume that belies the expression’s position as an entry point into the world of Ardbeg. Contrary to its name the Wee Beastie is a big, bold, and all-around proper Ardbeg. It’s the smokiest in all of the permanent range and has been crafted to work especially well in cocktails as well.
