Johnnie Walker – 18 Years is an indulgent blend of up to 18 different whiskies each chosen for their remarkable depth of flavour and character and was previously known as Johnnie Walker Platinum Label.
Also, the new name and luxury packaging celebrate the blend’s credentials as the best 18-year-old blended Scotch whisky ever created by Johnnie Walker, maker of the world’s best-selling Scotch.
Johnnie Walker 18 Years is hand-crafted by Jim Beveridge – twice voted Master Blender of the Year2. Also, he sought out the ultimate combination of complex and smooth 18-year-old whiskies drawn from the main whisky producing regions of Scotland.

History

Since the earliest days of their business, the Walker family and subsequent generations of Master Blenders have crafted exclusive Scotch Whiskies for the directors of their company and for private gatherings. Therefore, they treasured whiskies that have only ever been shared with a select few, at special occasions.

Inspired by this tradition, JOHNNIE WALKER PLATINUM LABEL is a supremely rich and full-flavoured 18 year old Scotch Whisky, created for those truly special moments. Drawn from a limited number of casks, carefully chosen and retained throughout their maturation because of their exceptional character. It is an intense, smooth and subtly smoky blend, crafted from Single Malt and Grain Whiskies. Since, each matured to perfection for a minimum of 18 years.

John “Johnnie” Walker was born in 1805 near Kilmarnock and ran a grocery, wine and spirits shop on the High Street in Kilmarnock. He was selling his own whisky brand, then known as Walker’s Kilmarnock Whisky.

John’s son, Alexander, had learned the art of tea blending whilst working for a tea merchant in Glasgow. When he returned to take over the family business from his ailing father.

However, he used those skills to create the family’s first blend in 1865, Old Highland Whisky. Eventually became Johnnie Walker Black Label.

A few years later, in 1870, Alexander introduced the now iconic square bottle as it allowed more bottles to be packed in a case and reduced breakages.
